Wine Appreciation Class
Wine Appreciation
In this Appreciation Class we cover the basic knowledge needed to enjoy your own wine collection, the art of storing , decanting, serving and matching with food, the sorts of glasses you will find to enhance enjoyment of wine. How much wine to serve guests for enjoyment and to avoid excess. We shall do some fascinating readings from some famous wine writers and discover a few great wine drinkers in history.

We encounter the styles and varietals of wine you find in a shop, the intimate points of tasting, the smell, taste and colour of wine, the types of wine that are grown and sold in Australia, New Zealand, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Greece and other Mediterranean lands, the America and other parts of the “New World”. We aim to introduce you to wines grown all over the world so that it is not just an “Australocentric” course.

We deal with some of the intricacies of reading a wine label, and what wine appellation means for legislatures, winemakers and consumers. The history and heritage of wine must be contemplated and borne in mind. We visit the world production of wine to see where it is all made and where it all goes.

Armed with this knowledge we pay a visit to a wine shop and find out what is and what is not good value. There will be something in these Classes to add to the knowledge of those who know something already, but the format is particularly welcoming to those who feel they know very little and want to know more.
